Saturday. As a parent, today is a little easier than yesterday knowing that the kids are safe in China. Remember now, the group is 13 hours ahead of us, so at noon our time today, their
day is over and they “should be” sleeping as it will be 1 a.m. tomorrow morning their time.
We still haven’t had any internet communication with the group yet, but as soon as we do, be assured that it will get posted immediately. We are also working on an efficient way for you
to send e-mail messages to a “holding folder” that can be retrieved by JE when they do make connection. We’ll keep you posted.
According to the itinerary, the Journey East II gang will begin their day touring
the “Great Wall.” This may be one of the few moments on the trip when the group is completely silent in disbelief! The kids have been studying these places for months and now to be standing on the
site of one of the greatest wonders of the world. Speechless.
We have selected a couple of fantastic sites about the wall, with one in particular allowing you an interactive 360-degree panoramic view!
Tonight the kids will visit the Beijing Opera. This should be one of the more entertaining experiences of the trip. The costumes and the music should be
quite dramatic. Quoted from the first web site listed (see below), “Artistically, Beijing Opera is perhaps the most refined form of opera in the world.”
Here are some links to Beijing Opera:
Pretty exciting stuff, eh? Can’t wait to hear about these experiences from the kids themselves.
Tomorrow the kids are scheduled to visit the Huijia School and see an acrobatic performance. It will be the last full day in Beijing until the end of April.
Well, This has been the group’s first full day in China. I wonder how the kids are doing with the food so far? See you tomorrow . . .
