April 10

Do you want fries with that?

Hi everybody. Before we get started, remember that familiar sight we mentioned yesterday? Tom thought we’d get a thrill seeing the old “golden arches.” Now, let’s see, I’ll have a strawberry shake . . . How many of you guessed McDonald’s? And is the menu in Chinese? I hope they have pictures! Thanks Tom.

The Journey East II gang is spending all day today and tomorrow in Xi’an. Today should be a great sightseeing day for the kids. On tap are the Terra Cotta Warrior Museum and Huaqing Hot Springs. The Terra Cotta Warriors should take the kids’ breath away. There are over 6,000 life-size warriors, built more than 2,000 years ago. Incredible!

Neil Manders (Leland and Gray Technology Director and webmaster) visited the museum last year. Here you’ll see him standing next to some of the warriors (can you find Neil in the picture?)

The group will also visit the Huaqing Hot Springs. The spring’s water stays an even 109 degrees year-round (toasty!). Speaking of toasty, the weather appears to be sunny and quite warm for the gang’s stay in Xi’an. Excellent!

Still puzzled by the enormous time difference. Yeah, me too! So, to help you get a better feel for what time it is, no matter where you are, here’s a nifty world time clock.

And, to help you get a better idea of where some of these sights are in Xi’an, here’s a neat street map of Xi-an.

With the busy schedule the group has in Xi’an, we are not sure when we’ll be receiving the next correspondence and batch of photos. In the meantime, enjoy checking out the links and learning about the many, many sights in this historic city.
