Hohhot (Huhehaote)
Want to impress your kids with your ability to write in
Chinese? Click on the characters above to learn how to draw, in Chinese, the name Hohhot. Pretty cool!
Hi everyone. One week from tonight our gang of 29 will return to the the good ol’ US of A. Now we begin the countdown in earnest.
We were hoping to receive more photos and reports last night. Let’s hope
they show up today! The time difference is still an interesting thing. Here’s a neat link (created specifically for the Internet Explorer browser) to show
where the sunlight is on earth at this moment. Using the arrows, (click to move slowly, hold the click to increase rotation speed) you rotate the earth
to see that when it is daylight here, it is dark in China. Check it out! This link is from the “Think the Earth” website.

Throughout the trip we have talked about the kids this and the kids that. We shouldn’t forget that there are five adults on this trip
as well. Tom is the program director and Ann is the artistic director. They have done an extraordinary job of creating the itinerary and managing this program of Asian studies. Ron is the music director,
coordinating the music and songs. He, along with a couple of the other students, also provides live background music for portions of the performance. Jenny, Tom’s wife, along with Pat, serve as
chaperones, playing an integral part in keeping the kids emotionally stable. Thirty days on the road to China is a challenge in many ways we can’t imagine, especially for teenagers. Jenny and Pat deserve
many, many thanks for their efforts in keeping our kids “safe and sound.” While we all miss our kids and are anxious for their return, so too do the spouses of these wonderful people. Thank you Tom, Ann,
Ron, Jenny, and Pat!

The kids were to perform last night at the Foreign Language Academy of Economics and Trade. They will perform next tomorrow night with their farewell performance in
Hohhot Monday night.
Many of us watched the group run through their only dress rehearsal a couple of days before they left on March 28th (that even sounds like a long time ago!) and there
were many rough edges to be smoothed. Nevertheless, that was a fun evening and their performance was still terrific. Can’t wait now to see these kids do their “stage magic!”
Well, it’s still early and there are a few hours remaining in “their” day in China. As always, Check back
throughout the day for more photos, reports, and updates. And parents, if you have any phone calls or e-mail from your kids you’d like to share, please let me know. We’d love to hear from you.
We’ll leave you with a few more links to check out. The “More Inner Mongolia” link is part of the ThinkQuest site. ThinkQuest Inc. is a non-profit organization which offers programs designed to advance education through the use of technology. Good stuff.
