Journey East Trip to China 2005

LELAND AND GRAY UNION HIGH AND MIDDLE SCHOOL — TOWNSHEND, VT 05353

Created at Leland & Gray High School in Townshend, Vermont, supported by the Asian Studies Outreach Program (ASOP) at the University of Vermont (UVM), and funded primarily through a grant from the Freeman Foundation,

Journey East, as a whole, consists of the Asian Studies Academy and Sino-American Performing Arts Exchange at Leland and Gray Union High School; the integration of an Asian Studies curriculum throughout the Windham Central Supervisory Union, and the introduction of Chinese language programs into the district.

Dr. Juefei Wang, Director of the Asian Studies Outreach Program University of Vermont, is a recipient of the prestigious Goldman Sachs Award for Excellence in International education, on behalf of the UVM, Asian Studies Outreach Program.

The Leland and Gray Journey East program is deeply indebted, and extends its heartfelt thanks, to Dr. Juefei Wang, without whose effort and support this program would not even be possible!

Thank you Juefei!

Day 1 . . . and so the journey begins.

The “JE gang” is on their way to one of the greatest adventures of their lives!

They’ll be traveling for the next twenty-four hours, so it will be a while before we get any correspondence from them. As soon as we get word of the group’s safe arrival in China, we’ll post the good news on the site. Feel free to check each day’s page several times a day. Some days we’ll have an early morning post and that’s all we’ll get. other days will bring us two, maybe three posts throughout the day. There is no telling what we’ll get and how often.

Be assured, that throughout the coming month, we’ll be right here, bringing you every morsel of information concerning our kids in China.

For some of you, this is the first time you’ve experienced being separated from your child for a month. It is our hope that this site will keep the connection, making the separation as painless as possible.

If, during the journey, you have any questions, comments, or wish to share any correspondence (e-mails or phone calls) you have with your child, feel free to e-mail them to me. And let me know if you wish to allow this information to shared with others.

For the next thirty days, we are in this together -- one big family!

If you were unable to make it to the group’s final dress rehearsal this past Saturday, check out a few photos of that performance.

Okay everybody. We’ll do our best to keep you entertained, amused, and informed as we enjoy our kids and their amazing adventure known as “Journey East 2005!”
